Description In 2022, Accurat partnered with the Freedom of the Press Foundation to overhaul the U.S. Press Freedom Tracker, a critical database documenting press freedom violations. The goal was to create a user-friendly, data-native platform that would enhance the searchability and contextualization of incidents for journalists, researchers, and advocates. The project included a complete redesign of the website and its brand identity to make it more accessible and informative. The new design integrates a dashboard for streamlined incident search and enhanced advanced search functionality based on user behavior and data analytics. The platform now features a simplified, intuitive interface and a comprehensive taxonomy for visualizing information. The data-driven approach ensured that the site meet user needs while maintaining the depth and accuracy of documentation essential for legal and advocacy efforts.Accurat's redesign not only refreshed the Press Freedom Tracker's visual identity, but also enhanced its functionality and user experience. The project demonstrates the power of data-driven design in creating impactful digital tools that support critical journalism and press freedom advocacy.
