Description The Knight Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving media integrity, commissioned a study in 2018 to examine how disinformation spread on Twitter during the 2016 U.S. presidential election. The study, conducted by researchers at George Washington University and the network analysis firm Graphika, analyzed more than 10 million tweets, revealing networks of disinformation and their growing influence. However, the findings, detailed in a lengthy PDF report, were inaccessible to the average reader.Accurat worked with the Knight Foundation to bring these findings to life through an engaging, scrolling web experience. We transformed the dense data into dynamic visuals, creating an interactive narrative that made the complex information clear and powerful. By depicting user accounts as birds and their tweets as flight paths, we illustrated the spread of fake news in a visually compelling way. Our responsive design ensured accessibility across devices, extending the report's reach and engaging a wider audience.Completed in just three months, this project successfully translated an important research report into a powerful digital experience that garnered coverage from major media outlets including Politico, NPR, and Adweek. Through this collaboration, we helped the Knight Foundation further its mission to advance journalism and protect the integrity of communications in the digital age.
